Pop-up Installation at the Brentwood Art Center

I just completed a quick mural + installation in the front window at the Brentwood Art Center. Address for those who are in LA and would like to drive by: 13031 Montana Avenue (at 26th St)
Los Angeles, CA 90049-4891

This is the planning/layout phase. I wanted the theme to reflect summer fun as well as children since many go to Art Camps at the BAC in the Summertime. The running and the butterflies create a sense of motion.

The very beginning. You can see the size/length of the wall and close quarters. I couldn't really back up on the work, so it was essential that I drew it out first.

Another layout angle (plus I'm hydrating)

Always hydrate when painting murals in a sun soaked hallway
— Me

I usually put a ton of emphasis on layering in both my paintings and murals. To me, the paint textures created can be as interesting as the image itself. Here I have some bright neon paint under dark blues, taping off for directional patterns. The result is a nice glow that omits from the wall.

I had also planned to create a garden in the window, and it was suggested that I paint the base to match the mural. It really completes the piece! Here I am on the second, blue layer after setting the base.

The garden incorporates found foliage, manufactured foliage as well as painted paper bag flowers.

The installation at 90% completion, just needs a few more paper roses :)

"Eat This" (work in progress)

I just realized my website had a blog feature (genius). I will start posting painting snippets to Twitter through my blog, that I now know I have! Be ready for some artwork in progress + art shows I go to, any amazing revelations I have (these are daily of course) etc...You're welcome.
